But here's the funny thing. Whenever I'm stuck in a creative block, I get out of it in the moments of relaxing. The moments of boredom. The moments when I feel like I'm the most unproductive. That's when something loosens and the ideas come back.
So maybe we don't have to be constantly swimming. Maybe every now and then we can simply lay in the water, waves crashing around us, and just float. Not try to get somewhere. And maybe that is more productive than anything.
Love, Bea
Dear Coollectors,
Most of the designs for this month were made with a match playing in the background and my heart pumping in my chest.
I'll be honest, I don't want to make this about soccer. That's not what this is. But this year the World Cup is here, in the US, and something about that felt like the closest I'll ever get to having both of my homes coiled into one place. Brazil in Philadelphia. I didn't know how much I needed that until it was happening.
I was born and raised in Fortaleza. Never liked the beach much, growing up. Lately it's all I can think about. A specific beach. A specific fish grilled wrapped in a banana leaf. My feet buried in sand. I was born and raised in a place where people go for vacation. Funny how that works.
This past month has been one of the busiest of my life, in many, many ways, good and bad ones. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, rest stopped being a priority. I am the kind of person that works for rest. On a day off I'll start a project around the house. My family and friends tell me to slow down and I know they are right.
As this club grows, I feel the pressure growing with it. More people to let down, more people to please. And it's easy to lose track of why I started this in the first place. Why I do what I do.
We are constantly running. Meeting deadlines, meeting expectations, our own, everyone else's. And rest, somewhere along the way, started feeling like a waste of time. When I try to stop, I feel itchy. Bored. Guilty. Like I should be doing something.
